BAFTA – Future-proofing a London Icon
Talk and Q&A with Renato Benedetti
Followed by a screening of Notting Hill in the newly refurbished Princess Anne Theatre
Renato Benedetti, of Benedetti Architects describes their award-winning re-design & expansion of BAFTA’s headquarters, with Q&A, followed by a private screening of much-loved film Notting Hill.
Benedetti has reimagined BAFTA’s iconic listed home to create an inclusive world-class centre of excellence for Film, Games & TV. He’ll explain the ideas behind this ambitious retrofit, integrating state-of-the-art technology and sensitively balancing members’ needs with public access/revenue, ensuring the charity’s long-term social, economic and environmental sustainability.
With finely detailed classic materials, the expansion includes BAFTA’s first Clore learning space and a new top floor by raising/restoring huge Victorian structures/plasterwork lost for 45yrs from the original 1883 Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.
The talk is followed by Notting Hill. Recently voted Radio 2’s Ultimate Rom-Com; the highest-grossing British film ever, was produced by Duncan Kenworthy who introduced Benedetti to BAFTA. It won the 2000 BAFTA Audience Award for Most Popular Film.
